Sovereign to Immortality Chapter 15: The Senior
Proofread by Liang Yaping
When people were discussing, Zhang Chenghong had already become the center of the group. Many flatterers rushed to him and gave their congratulations to him, hoping to establish some relationship with Zhang Chenghong whose son was the new disciple recruited by Heaven-shocking Sect. And this made him get on the high horse.
Some of them attempted to have a word with Zhang Yueming but failed. Although Zhang Chenghong was extremely complacent, he kept his son under thorough protection. Even the face contact with him was impossible.
When Zhang Chenghong was chatting delightedly with them, from the direction of their previous journey, two streaks of smoke rose in the air.
None of them was an ordinary person. Seeing the smoke, they realized someone was galloping the horse. The opening of the Pehchao Mountain Paddock was an important event, and this area was in the realm of Heaven-shocking Sect. Ordinary people had to slow down when passing. This hastiness must indicate some urgency.
There came a sudden silence among the group. Even Zhang Chenghong couldn’t care the disturbing of his reputation. He turned around, only to find the coming persons were his acquaintances.
“My fourth brother, Dad is tortured by his illness again. He is in a dangerous state. You should hurry back home!”
“Pharmacist Zhang, my elder brother made some mistakes when cultivating. The reverse flow of blood hurt his heart and viscera. Please do help him out!”
Two screams of the voice came through a long way from the distant smoke. In two roaring moos, two cultivators reined their cows on arriving at the flat ground of the Pehchao Mountain, glancing at each other for a second.
Similar to Zhang Chenghong, the left cultivator had a kind of apathy in his eyes while the other on the right was flurried when knowing that Zhang’s father was also sick at the same time. That meant the treatment to his brother would be put off, despite the urgency of internal trauma. But he had no alternative when faced with this dilemma.
There were scarce pharmacists in Chengyu County that was located in a remote area, let alone the alchemist. Only Zhang Chenghong could be roughly regarded as a pharmacist in the whole region of Huangyuan Town. Although the medicinal pills he made and prescribed occasionally didn’t work and his conducts were not upright enough, Zhang Chenghong still enjoyed a great reputation in the town.
Seeing the scene in the distance, Meng Shan, the head of Tumeng Village, smirked suddenly in a low voice, “Brother Yang, which person do you think Zhang Chenghong is going to follow?” He asked Yang Tiangang.
Yang Tiangang glanced at him in surprise, saying, “You mean that Zhang Chenghong will choose to cure the other patient rather than his dear father?”
Meng Shan laughed without further utterance, implying that he was to see what was going to happen.
Yang Junshan was still astonished by Zhang’s choice even though he had witnessed the whole thing in his prelife.
“Hurry up! Time is life!”
On hearing thes words, Zhang Chenghong turned his shoulder to his son and said something. Then he walked directly to those two guys.
But people got bewildered soon before he went further.
Realizing he was not heading for him, the man who was similar to Zhang Chenghong exclaimed in a high voice, “My Second Brother, where are you going?”
Zhang Chenghong answered, waving his hand impatiently, ” You go back first. Our Dad’s illness has broken out frequently in the past. It will not claim his life. The time of treatment doesn’t make any difference. I’d better have a look at Liu San’s big brother.”
The sixth young brother of him got irritated at once. He glared at Liu San, who had arrived at same time as him, with fierce detestation, yelling, “My fourth Brother, what are you saying? How can you place your father in the second place to outsiders!”
Liu San became nervous with the glare. Despite the internal injuries that were torturing his brother, he vacillated when he saw Zhang Chenghong walking to him instead of curing his own father first. He said tentatively, “Pharmacist Zhang, well, you may first attend to your father…”
“Never mind that!”
Zhang Chenghong waved his hands to interrupt Liu San’s speaking. With knitted brows, he grumbled in a not high voice, “Treating Dad doesn’t bring me money!”
He didn’t intend to lower his voice. Although the square in front of the Pehchao Mountain was very large, the cultivators on the spot heard clearly what he said.
Obviously, it was the first time for Yang Tiangang and his fellows to encounter this scene. They were all stunned; but for those natives of Chenyu County, like Meng Shan, and also those who dwelt in Huangyuan Town seemed not to be surprised. They even refrained from laughing.
The reaction of onlookers was one thing, but Liu San quickly understood his words and then immediately apologized with a smile, “I know. Pharmacist Zhang, how about this price?”
He stretched out three fingers at first. But then noticing the dissatisfaction on Zhang’s face, he forced out his thumb and forefinger altogether. It was a palm.
The sullenness cleared away at once and a contented smile emerged between his brows. He thanked with joined hands, ” No problem. Five jade coins make the deal!”
Liu San jumped from the cow in a hurry and supported Zhang Chenghong with his hand cautiously, guiding, “This way please!”
Zhang Chenghong’s sixth brother was apparently shocked by his behavior. It was not until they mounted the cow that he realized the reality. Regardless of being shameful for his fourth brother, he shouted out, “Brother, brother…”
Zhang Chenghong and Liu San departed into the dust in the distance, from which only came a voice, “My sixth brother, you return first. I’ll be back as soon as I examine Big Liu. Your nephew is looked after by the people in Heaven-shocking Sect. You are not needed here.”
His sixth young brother became red in the face with anger. He glanced across the people around, only to find the strange countenances on everyone’s face, which nearly made him ashamed to death. Not only he but also Zhang Yueming was astonished by his father’s behavior. He intended to persuade his father but the briskness of his decision thwarted him. The great embarrassment made him restless.
“Well,” Zhang Laoliu sighed helplessly, turning to his nephew, “Ming’er. Anyway, you are excellent. Take care of yourself when you are in Pehchao Mountain!”
Then he rode on the cow and rushed back on the same way he came, unwilling to stay here for another second.
Shortly after Zhang’s departure, people didn’t scruple to burst out laughing. The laughter didn’t stop until the bang broke out from the formation in Pehchao Mountain. Suddenly the paddock, which was immersed in the clouds and mist, disclosed. An august announcement rose from the formation of the paddock, shocking everyone’s heart to numbness, “Who are making noises!”
The square fell into a silence. Many people were frightened by the shouting. Even cultivators in Warrior Realm like Yang Tiangang also took on a respectful manner.
From beginning to end, Yang Junshan was not interested in the whole occurrence on the square at all. He focused on Zhang Yueming from the start.
He was astonished by his father’s decision, anxious to persuade, but feeling helpless and ashamed by his father. In addition, he felt at a great loss when laughed at by others. It was not until the outbreak of the announcement was heard that he recovered from the lost mind. He cast a more determined and eager eye at the Pehchao Mountain.
Yang Junshan couldn’t help acclaiming him from the bottom of his heart. Zhang Yueming was going to be the genius cultivator in Yu Prefecture and also the youngest inner disciple of Heaven-shocking Sect in the future. His unparalleled determination did live up to his excellence. It was no wonder that he could still carry the banner of inheritance for Heaven-shocking Sect even if the Sect was wiped out in the future.
However, the opening of the paddock’s formation distracted Yang Junshan’s attention. He turned to look at three cultivators of the Sect who were landing in walking posture high in the air.
They were not shrouded with black wind, but cultivators on both sides were accompanied by killing intent. The elder in the middle was walking through the air, which made everyone shiver slightly. It was obvious that all of them had, at least, the third level of cultivation in Warrior Realm and the senior was even the Master of the fourth level.
The cultivator on the left side was about thirty years old with a fair and smooth face, smiling to the people on the square all the time. The right one, however, was brave and fierce, his eyes, like bronze bells, cast an immense hostility to them. No one dared to have any eye contact with him.
The person in the middle looked older than the other two. He placed his hands behind his body, wearing a half-new cyan robe. Without any suppressing mien, he looked like a fifty-year-old senior.
But this made Yang Junshan feel more uncertain. Now he was just a cultivator on the first level of Mortal Realm and couldn’t detect their cultivation level by practicing some secret magic like what he had done in his prelife. The senior’s surrounding Qi was concentrated in his Dantian, which indicated the summit of Warrior Realm cultivation. Only by a step further, he would reach Saint Realm.
The senior walked forward, saying to the people on the square, “I’m Chen Ji, the guard of Pehchao Mountain Paddock designated by Heaven-shocking Sect. The persons behind me are my Junior Martial Brother, Zhang Fengyi and Xiong Manshan. We are in charge of the opening of paddock. I’m sure that all of you are familiar with its rules and rituals. So I will not repeat them. The paddock will be open for seven days. Now we shall begin!”
Finishing this, the senior gave a sign to the persons behind. The right cultivator, Xiong Manshan, walked one step forward, shaking his fan-sized hands to the teenagers who were swarming towards the gate and yelling, “Don’t rush. Seven days are a long time. You don’t need to fight for this bit. Make sure you all take your certificate. Don’t attempt to muddle through the gate, or I’ll slap you to death with my palm!”
Suddenly the billowy harshness spread through the whole square, making the flow of teenagers come to a halt. Some who had rushed in the front instantly became pale and some teenagers with fragile mind even fell upon the ground on hearing his warning, panic filling their eyes.
Now no one rushed or hurried. Xiong Manshan laughed out mischievously at the sight of this.
Yang Junshan, standing on the side of the square, already foresaw this scene. He equipped himself with all items he had prepared recently in a calm manner. After checking whether there was any omission, he said to Yang Tiangang who was leaning on his packhorse and smoking pipe, “Dad, I’m off!”
